House Of Raminten

00:46

This was my second visit to House of Raminten and it hadn't been changed since 2011. We had to wait for another 2 guests (that was about 10-15 minutes) before we could finally sat on the second floor. I had never been inside, so I was still surprised to know that all seats are on the floor (lesehan) with some rattan seat with the back and headrest.

The food was not so special but was okay. They also served Indonesian herbal tea mix (jamu). The prices here are affordable and you'd simply love the atmosphere. Just skip the bakso sapi (meatball), I suggest. But the bakmi godog (noodle soup) was great.

It was raining when we finished at around 7.30 p.m. so we were surprised to see how the waiting area was crowded with people. There were probably 50 people waiting to be seated there. It was like seeing people who were waiting to watch a movie or some concert. Thank God we arrived earlier when the queue were just for two groups.

According to our 2 hours experience there, we have learned some stuff that could be useful tips for you:
  1. Never come at Saturday night at dinner time on rain. The queue was crazy!
  2. Order all things that you would want from the beginning. It took a while till the food would come.
  3. Don't try to come if you have problem sitting on the floor. The only seats that aren't on the floor are the waiting area. You won't want to eat there.
  4. If you sit upstairs, especially on rain-and-windy time, mind your belongings. Wind could fly your lightweight objects and you wouldn't be aware of it.
  5. If you would want to taste one of the jamu menus, achtung! The bitter taste would stay longer for the portion was a wine glass full.

But after all, we had a great time eating there. It's really a unique place with hilarious concept. They warned us already that they are sort of mad people (written on the sign at the receptionist). The waiters wear vest and batik sarong while the waitresses wear girdle with batik cloth. It's like going to a Javanese cabaret or traditional dance show but the actors are serving us instead of being on stage. It's worth it, I guarantee ;)

P.S. The phenomenal restaurant is located in Jl. FM Noto 7, Kotabaru, Yogyakarta 55224, next to Mirota Bakery. Or ask local people, they'd know.
